Electricity connection NOC from the owner

A letter from the owner of a house, shop or office saying that the tenant may take a new electricity connection or change the name on the meter.

This is a sample, not an official form. Offices differ. Check this text with the issuing office before you sign, and use the office's own form if it gives you one. Govt License does not give legal advice.

What it is for

Use it when a tenant applies for a new electricity connection, a change of name or a change of load for rented premises. The electricity company asks for the owner's no objection.

Who signs

The owner of the premises signs. The tenant may also sign as accepted.

Common questions

Why does the electricity company ask for the owner's NOC?
The connection is for the premises, which belong to the owner. The NOC shows that the owner agrees to a connection in the tenant's name.
Who pays the bills?
The tenant pays for the electricity used. The NOC usually says so. Unpaid dues of an old tenant can sometimes affect the next connection, so ask the company for a no dues certificate when a tenant leaves.
Do I need stamp paper?
Usually no. A signed letter on plain paper with the owner's ID and ownership proof is commonly accepted. Check the electricity company's list.
