Consent letter from the property owner for GST registration

A letter from the owner of a shop or office saying that the applicant may use the address as the place of business for GST registration.

This is a sample, not an official form. Offices differ. Check this text with the issuing office before you sign, and use the office's own form if it gives you one. Govt License does not give legal advice.

What it is for

Use it when the place of business in your GST application is rented, shared or belongs to a family member. The GST application asks for proof of the premises, and for rented premises a consent letter from the owner is the usual proof.

Who signs

The owner of the premises signs. If there are several owners, one or all of them sign as the office asks.

Common questions

Is a consent letter enough for GST registration on rented premises?
The GST portal lists the documents it accepts as proof of the place of business. For rented premises these usually include a rent agreement and the owner's ownership proof. A consent letter from the owner is commonly attached. Check the current list on the GST portal.
Do I need stamp paper for the consent letter?
Usually no. A signed letter on plain paper with the owner's ID copy is commonly accepted. Check with the office if it asks for notarisation.
What if the premises are my own home?
Then attach your own ownership proof, such as the property tax receipt or the electricity bill in your name. You do not need a consent letter.
