How this is calculated
Professional tax is a state tax, so the rate depends on your state. For states where we hold a complete schedule, the calculator picks the slab for your monthly salary (or yearly turnover) and gives the tax for each month and for the year. It runs in your browser and sends nothing anywhere.
Some states deduct a different amount in one month. Karnataka deducts ₹300 in February and ₹200 in other months. Odisha deducts a higher amount in the last month. Bihar deducts the tax once a year, from the September salary. West Bengal has a new salary schedule from 1 October 2026, and a turnover schedule from 1 April 2027.
States with no professional tax in our data: Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand. For states where the schedule is not complete in a source we could read, the calculator shows the rule in words and the official portal instead of a number. It never estimates.
Where the figures come from a secondary source, the result says Not officially verified. Confirm with the state department before you pay.

Worked example
In Karnataka, a monthly salary of ₹40,000 is above ₹25,000, so the tax is ₹200 a month, and ₹300 in February. For the year that is 11 × ₹200 + ₹300 = ₹2,500.
In Telangana, a monthly salary of ₹18,000 falls in the ₹15,001 to ₹20,000 slab, so the tax is ₹150 a month, or ₹1,800 a year.
