How this is calculated
Add GST: GST = amount × rate ÷ 100. Total = amount + GST.
Remove GST: the amount you enter is the total with GST. Amount before GST = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). GST = total minus the amount before GST.
CGST, SGST and IGST: when the seller and the buyer are in the same state, GST is split equally into CGST (to the Centre) and SGST (to the state or union territory). When they are in different states, the whole GST is IGST. Amounts are rounded to the paisa.
The calculator does not decide which rate applies to your product. Find the HSN or SAC code and check the rate on the CBIC rate page.
Do I need GST registration? A business supplying only goods must register above ₹40 lakh a year, or ₹20 lakh in the special category states (Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Sikkim, Telangana, Tripura and Uttarakhand). A business supplying services, or goods and services together, must register above ₹20 lakh. Some sellers must register at any turnover, such as those selling through an e-commerce platform. The checker uses the limit for your state from our data. This is a guide, not tax advice.

Worked example
Add GST of 18% to ₹10,000 inside one state. GST = 10,000 × 18 ÷ 100 = ₹1,800. That is ₹900 CGST plus ₹900 SGST. The total is ₹11,800 (eleven thousand eight hundred rupees only).
Remove GST at 18% from ₹11,800. Amount before GST = 11,800 ÷ 1.18 = ₹10,000. GST is ₹1,800.
