Apply for a ration card in West Bengal online

  1. Open food.wb.gov.in, then Services, then the Ration Card tab
  2. Choose Apply for new Ration Card and fill in the Digital Ration Card application
  3. Upload the documents and submit
  4. After approval you get an SMS with a link to download the e-Ration Card as a PDF

Apply offline

  1. Download the form (Form 3 for a new card for a family) and submit it at the nearest Food Inspector Office or Rationing Office

Documents to keep ready

  • Aadhaar of every family member
  • Proof of address, e.g. electricity bill or rent agreement
  • Income certificate or self declaration (for PHH or AAY)
  • Passport size photo of the head of family (usually the eldest woman)
  • Bank passbook
  • Surrender or deletion certificate if you had a card in another state or area

This is the national list. Confirm any extra paper on your state portal.

Card types

Subsidised cards under NFSA, and a non-subsidised card (Form 10) that is for identity and carries no subsidised foodgrains. Form 4 adds a member, Form 5 corrects details and Form 9 is for a duplicate card.

Under NFSA the state issues AAY and PHH cards (nfsa.gov.in).

The e-Ration Card is for families whose members' Aadhaar numbers are seeded. Helpdesk: 1800 345 5505 or 1967.
