Good to know
  • States may add service or smart card charges, so the total you pay can be higher than the central fee. Delhi, for example, shows ₹500 for one class.
  • Minimum age: 16 for gearless two wheelers up to 50cc (with parent consent), 18 for other private vehicles, 20 for transport vehicles.
  • Use only sarathi.parivahan.gov.in or your state transport site. Ignore agents who promise a pass without a test.

Driving with no licence at all can bring a fine of ₹5,000 under the 2019 amendment, which the official government summary confirms. The Act also allows jail up to 3 months, but we could not load that line. With only a learner's licence you must have a licensed driver beside you and show L plates. Breaking these conditions is also an offence.
