UAN activation: how to activate your UAN on UMANG

UAN activation now happens in the UMANG app with an Aadhaar face scan. It is free and takes a few minutes.

The short answer

Activate your UAN in the UMANG app, not on the EPFO member portal.

Open UMANG, go to UAN Services Through Face Auth, choose UAN Activation, and complete the Aadhaar face scan. It is free.

The member portal notice says UAN activation and new UAN allotment on the portal have been discontinued.

Govt License never asks for your Aadhaar number or OTP. Only download from official sites. We do not download anything for you, and you never type personal details on our site.

Steps

  1. Download the UMANG app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store, and sign in.
  2. Open the EPFO services in UMANG.
  3. Under UAN Services Through Face Auth, choose UAN Activation if you already have a UAN. If you do not have a UAN yet, choose UAN Allotment and Activation.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen and complete the Aadhaar face authentication with your phone camera.
  5. After activation, use your UAN to log in to the member portal or UMANG to see your passbook and file claims.

  • Your UAN, if you already have one
  • Your Aadhaar number
  • A phone with a working camera and internet

Good to know

  • UMANG is the official app for EPFO services. Do not use other apps or pay anyone to activate your UAN.
  • EPFO never asks for Aadhaar, PAN or bank details over the phone, and never asks you to deposit money.
  • Keep your UAN password and OTP to yourself.
