How we verify professionals
What we check, what we do not check, and how to report a problem.
What “verified” means
A verified professional is one whose registration number and identity proof were shown to us and checked by a person on our team. It does not mean we have tested the quality of their work, and it is not a recommendation. Listings are information only; GovtLicense does not recommend or endorse any professional.
The checks, step by step
- Registration number. We look up the number on the body's own public register: ICAI for Chartered Accountants, the State Bar Council and Bar Council of India records for advocates, ICSI for company secretaries. The name and number must match what the professional gave us.
- Identity and practice proof. The professional uploads a membership certificate or enrolment card and a photo ID. Licence consultants, who have no professional body, upload a photo ID and proof of their work, such as a GST or Udyam certificate of their firm.
- Checked by a person. A member of our team opens the files, compares them with the register and the profile, and either verifies, rejects with a note or asks for more. Every file opened is written to an audit log.
- Two-step login. Every professional account is protected with an authenticator app.
- Listing. Only after step 3 does the profile appear on any public page.
Re-verification every year
We check each professional again once a year. If a registration lapses or is suspended by the professional body, we remove the listing. If a verified professional changes their name, profession or registration number, the profile goes back to waiting and is not public until we verify it again.
What we do not do
We do not check the quality, price or results of anyone's work. We do not give legal or tax advice. We do not rank professionals, accept payment for a better position or collect reviews. We are a directory, and professionals are independent.
Report a problem
Every public profile has a Report this professional button. You can also write to the Grievance Officer (Piyush Chawla, Grievance Officer, [email protected]). We acknowledge within 24 hours and aim to resolve within 15 days. We can suspend a listing while we look into a report.
